Event DescriptionHospice and palliative care programs are growing nationally. Once niche services well under the fiscal radar, many programs now have 7-figure budgets and a dozen or more clinicians. As program costs increase, sponsoring institution’s and organization’s expectations for clinical revenue growth leave HPC team members working longer hours to see more patients to help close the budgetary gap. Most HPC providers have become accustomed to basic billing and coding practices, and significant opportunities exist, even for seasoned clinicians and program leads, in the rapidly expanding array of billing revenue opportunities. It is critical for all clinicians to understand billing at a deeper level and feel comfortable with more complex billing topics. This activity is designed to optimize the significant opportunities which exist in billing revenue practices within the framework of the updated 2022 Medicare Documentation Guidelines through: 1. Maximizing the five most used groups of billing codes applicable to palliative care teams’ clinical work 2. Emphasizing the new Medicare documentation guidelines as opportunities to save time and increase revenue 3. Optimizing billing code selection across settings, to take full advantage of all the tools available in Medicare and commercial health plans Faculty Christopher A.
